San Francisco police arrested a man suspected of stabbing two Asian women in the city’s Midmarket neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.
Michael Andraichak, a public information officer with the San Francisco Police Department, confirmed that officers from the Tenderloin station arrested a 54-year-old man on suspicion of stabbing in the 600th block of Eddy Street.
Police said charges against the suspect are still pending. There was no confirmation until Tuesday night whether the suspect was facing a hate charge.
One of the victims, 85, was critically injured after being stabbed in the chest and arm, according to the television station “KPIX”. The second victim is 65 years old.

Both women are undergoing surgery at Zuckerberg General Hospital in San Francisco.
Meanwhile, people who witnessed the attack said a man with a knife was walking down Market Street when he approached a bus stop and stabbed the two women.
An eyewitness to the stabbing incident provided a photo to “KPIX” of a potential suspect. The photo shows a man with a shaved head, wearing a dark-colored shirt, blue jeans and black and white sneakers. The man was apparently carrying a black and green bag.
